There is a reason why the grass appears greener on the other side of the fence. Having an impeccably manicured lawn requires a purposeful strategy that must include a professional lawn care company that knows how to do its job. I emphasize ‘professional’ because there are so many incompetent lawn care contractors masquerading as lawn care experts.
The two keywords that define a credible lawn care company are ‘professional’ and ‘reliable’. If you cannot trust a lawn care contractor, you have many reasons to worry. It gets worse if that contractor lacks tact and professionalism.
There are, however, many professional and credible lawn service companies. With a little bit of due diligence, it is not difficult to find a professional lawn care company to tend your lawn. To identify a legitimate, credible, reliable and professional lawn care company, consider the following tips.
1. Do They Belong to a Professional Body?
For instance, in Ontario, there are two professional bodies called Landscape Ontario, and the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association. One of the things you need to find out about a lawn care company in this region is to establish if they are members of either these bodies or both.
A lawn care company with a membership in a professional body that regulates their conduct and behaviour brings on board a sense of responsibility, accountability and professionalism. You can safely rely on these attributes. The assurance that such a company has subjected itself to vetting and accepted by a regulatory body helps a lot.
2. Check out Their Online Reputation
The most important endorsement for any company is a good word from people who have interacted with its products and services. Customers can lavish a company with praise if they are happy with the service or product. They can also be extremely generous with negative reviews if a service was unprofessional, or if a product was faulty.
The internet provides customers with an opportunity to vent by reviewing products and services offered by lawn care companies. There are numerous online platforms for people to rate and review lawn care companies. Although some of the reviews are genuine, watch out for potential fake reviews left by people paid to say good things about a company.
3. Membership to Better Business Bureau
The Better Business Bureau, or BBB, rates various companies based on their reputation in handling customers over a certain period. While being a BBB member may not guarantee credible services from a lawn care company, it at least gives you confidence that the company has been vetted and approved by an independent body.
Not being a BBB member, however, does not mean that a company is not credible, especially if that company has just begun operations. However, if a lawn care company has been in operation for many years and is not a member of BBB, this could be a cause for concern.
4. Have They Won Awards?
If a company has won an award for work quality, business longevity or impeccable customer service, you can be sure they will flaunt it. Even better than being a BBB member is winning an award in any of these categories. This simply means you have excelled in that area.
Being on top of your game wins you more awards than anything else. So, if you find a lawn care company that has won awards in either of these areas or, better still, in all of them, you have a winner. You can check the Consumer Choice Award for independently verified and credible awards and their winners.
When recruiting a lawn care company to tend your lawn, don’t be fooled by empty promises and guarantees that only look good on paper. A guarantee not supported by a verifiable reputation of consistent quality work is not worth the paper it is printed on. Great companies are only as good as their service or products.
